BRAND NEW (DAISY) This album is perfection for me, i’m a fan of harder music and also a big Brand New fan so when you combine the two you have a recipe for album of the year.

GasHeart_NostalgiaCover

GASOLINE HEART (NOSTALGIA AIN’T WHAT IT USED TO BE) With vocals that sound like Bruce Springsteen and music that sounds like The Gaslight Anthem this album and band are going to make a impact on the indie music scene.

ReachForTheSun

THE DANGEROUS SUMMER (REACH FOR THE SUN) TDS is constantly compared to The Starting Line, I think that its a fair comparison particularly because both vocalists sound similar, but I will say that The Dangerous Summer have written an album that has a better replay value than anything The Starting Line has put to tape.

6613_134213746224_512451224_2545443_7940509_n August 21, 2009—The members of Pennywise, Fletcher Dragge, Byron McMackin and Randy Bradbury, have issued the following statement regarding singer Jim Lindberg’s departure:

“After 19 years with Pennywise, Jim Lindberg has decided to step down as lead singer. Pennywise has long stood behind the motto that you should always follow your heart and pursue what makes you happy, and we wish Jim the best of luck in his new ventures, whatever they may be. Pennywise has become a way of life for a lot of people, and has definitely become a way of life for us. As the three remaining members of Pennywise we feel that we are not done delivering our message to our fans.

”The band has always been about moving forward in life no matter what obstacles stand in front of you. We will begin our search for a new singer immediately. We will continue to tour the world and we are looking forward to writing new music. We’ve had a lot of good times and survived the hard times thanks to the undying support of our fans. We’re looking forward to what the future may bring.”

Sincerely Fletcher, Randy, and Byron

I don’t like this album but it seems the majority does, so in that case congrats to Cobra Starship, now on to the story.

281x211Cobra Starship said they were hoping for stardom withHot Mess, and thanks in part to their Leighton Meester-assisted first single, “Good Girls Go Bad,” they appear to be on their way. The band’s second album will debut at #4 on next week’s Billboard 200 albums chart on sales of more than 42,000, by far their best chart performance yet.

The good news was only partially obscured by the gigantic hat atop the head of “King of Country” George Strait, who lands yet another #1 debut for his latest,Twang, which crushed the competition to lord over the charts thanks to sales of 155,000. He has some down-home company courtesy of country upstart Justin Moore, whose self-titled debut squeaks into the top 10 at #10 on sales of 34,000.

The only other top-10 debut in an otherwise quiet week is a live album from Neil DiamondHot August Night NYC, which lands at #2 (57,000). The rest of the top 10 contains some familiar faces: Black Eyed Peas The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies)(#3, 45,000), Kings of Leon‘s Only by the Night (#5, 42,000), Now 31 (#6, 38,000),Maxwell‘s BLACKsummers’night (#7, 38,000), Daughtry‘s Leave This Town (#8, 38,000) and Taylor Swift‘s Fearless (#9, 37,000).

The Eastsider L.A. ran an interesting piece recently about renowned street artist Shepard Fairey having the brick walls of his Echo Park studio-gallery sandblasted and coated with anti-graffiti sealant. The post, “This is One Wall Shepard Fairey Wants to Keep Free of Self-Expression,” noted that Fairey, the creator of the iconic Obama Hope poster illustration, had recently pleaded guilty to acts of vandalism in Boston. The implication was clear — that Fairey was not practicing what he tagged. In an emailed response to a question for the piece, Fairey told Eastsider blogger Jesus Sanchez that the repeated tags of Fairey’s Sunset Boulevard Building were taking a toll on the brick walls, which he wanted to protect.
